Tragedy in Virginia

I was stunned to hear about the thoughtless killing of 32 people yesterday at Virginia Tech. It was a tragedy of the first magnitude.

Could it have been prevented? Well if you listened to the nattering nabob anti-Gunners that immediately took to the airwaves calling for a ban of all guns, they think yes. I think maybe the severity would have been less is everyone had a gun to protect themselves.

In 1991, we in Texas experienced a similar incident, 24 people were mindlessly killed at a Luby's in Killeen.
Before Oct. 16, 1991, the Central Texas town of Killeen was perhaps best known for its proximity to the Army base at Fort Hood, and Luby's was known only regionally as a popular cafeteria chain that served a wide variety of inexpensive dishes.

But on that day, both came to be linked to what was then the worst mass murder in U.S. history.

At 12:45 p.m., 35-year-old George Hennard of nearby Belton drove his pickup truck through a window at the Killeen Luby's and killed 24 people.

Because of that incident, Texans can legally carry concealed weapons, to prevent the same kind of innocent and unarmed citizens from being slaughtered. But what about in Virginia? They too could have been armed and protected themselves, but the gun haters shot it down.
More than one year before today's unprecedented shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, the state's General Assembly quashed a bill that would have given qualified college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus.

At the time, Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker said he was happy to hear of the bill's defeat, according to the Roanoke Times.

"I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus," the Virginia Tech spokesman said.

So the tragedy is not only were 32 unarmed students and faculty shot down in cold blood, but they could have protected themselves, thus ending the killing sooner, if they had been allowed allowed to carry a weapon for self protection.

So Thank You Brady, Michael Moore and other gun haters, you have 32 more people's blood on you hands due to your socialist unconstitutional agenda.

Mr Minority

[Update: I corrected the mistake of saying there were 33 students and faculty killed to the correct number 32 - Thanks Bill]
